Oklahoma and Virginia hold statewide primaries Tuesday. There are also runoffs from Georgia's May primary.

Most of the primaries worth watching this week are for U.S. House. We discuss those below, along with one Senate contest.
U.S. Senate
Virginia
Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine is seeking a third term; he faces no primary opposition.
Five Republicans are seeking the nomination. The frontrunners appear to be Navy Veteran Hung Cao and former Club for Growth VP Scott Parkinson.
Cao has been endorsed by Donald Trump and has a significant lead in fundraising. He was the party's 2022 nominee in VA-10, losing to Rep. Jennifer Wexton (D) by about 7%.
Parkinson has been endorsed by numerous members of Congress, including many who are normally aligned with the former president.
Kaine is favored to win reelection in November.
U.S. House
There are eight primaries of interest this week, all but two in Virginia.
Virginia District 2 (Democratic)
Republican Jen Kiggans flipped this district in 2022, defeating incumbent Democrat Elaine Luria by about three points. Kiggins is unopposed for renomination.
Jake Denton and Missy Cotter Smasal are seeking the Democratic nomination; Smasal has led in both fundraising and endorsem*nts.
A competitive general election is expected.
Virginia District 5 (Republican)
The lone incumbent to lose a U.S. House primary this year is Jerry Carl (AL-02), defeated in a member vs. member contest that came about due to redistricting.
That could change Tuesday, as Republican Bob Good faces state Sen. John McGuire. Good, Chair of the House Freedom Caucus, has alienated many in the party. He helped orchestrate the ouster of former Speaker Kevin McCarthy. A super PAC affiliated with McCarthy and establishment Republicans is working to return the favor.
An early supporter of the presidential bid of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis also has Good on the outs with Donald Trump, who has endorsed McGuire.
Regardless of who prevails, this is seen as a safely Republican district in the general election.
Virginia District 7 (Both)
Incumbent Democrat Abigail Spanberger is leaving Congress to run for Virginia governor in 2025.
This is a competitive district; Spanberger won a second term by about 5% in 2022. As such, a fairly large field is contesting each primary.
In the Democratic primary, there are several elected officials on the ballot. However, most of the energy seems to be behind a political newcomer,Eugene Vindmanwho previously worked as an ethics lawyer for the National Security Council. In that role, he - along with his brother Alex - reported concerns about Donald Trump's 2019 phone call with Ukrainian President Voldymyr Zelenskyy, which led to Trump's first impeachment.
For the GOP, most of the fundraising and endorsem*nts have been supportive of Derrick Anderson and Cameron Hamilton. Anderson previously sought the nomination for this district in 2022, finishing second in that year's primary.
Virginia District 10 (Both)
Incumbent Jennifer Wexton (D) is not seeking reelection for health reasons. A dozen candidates are looking to replace her in this D.C. area district that leans Democratic. Steven Farnsworth, a professor at the University of Mary Washington notes that "this may end up being one of the most expensive Democratic congressional primaries in the history of Virginia."
Wexton has endorsed state Sen. Suhas Subramanyam. Others seen as frontrunners include state Del. Dan Helmer, state Sen. Jennifer Boysko and former Virginia House Speaker Eileen Filler-Corn.
The primary has become nasty, with attacks hurled at many of these candidates.
There are a number of other notable candidates in the race, including state Dels. Michelle Maldonado and David Reid. Given that the winner may not even get 25% support in this large a field, it is anyone's guess as to how the contest will play out.
While most forecasters currently have the general election rated as Likely or Safe Democratic, this one could find its way onto the competitive radar if the environment becomes more favorable to Republicans. Wexton's 2022 margin was only about 6.5%, as the district became slightly less Democratic in redistricting after the 2020 Census.
Four Republicans are vying for the opportunity to compete in November. Mike Clancy, who lost a party-run primary for this district in 2022, has a modest lead in fundraising. Aliscia Andrews was the GOP nominee here in 2020.
Oklahoma District 4 (Republican)
House Appropriations Chair Tom Cole is being challenged by businessman Paul Bondar, who has aggressively self-funded his campaign. While Cole remains favored, the campaign is taking Bondar seriously.
There are three other candidates on the ballot. As a result, an August 27 runoff - if no candidate gets a majority - is a possibility.
Georgia District 3 (Republican Runoff)
Incumbent Drew Ferguson is retiring from this safely Republican district. The winner Tuesday will be heavily favored in November.
Brian Jack almost avoided a runoff, getting 47% of the vote in May. Mike Dugan finished second with 25%. Jack,White House Political Director for Donald Trump, has beenendorsed by the former president. Dugan served in the State Senate from 2013 to January of this year. That stint included four years as Majority Leader.
