This guide has been written using NCSFan001’s[psnprofiles.com] and NL_Sion PS4 guide over on PSNprofiles, all credit goes to them. I have converted as much of the information in this guide to PC as best as I can, but credit goes to them, they did the hard work.

Intro:

Welcome to the Red Dead Redemption 2 supplementary guide! The first part of the guide covers the 104 available gold medals with short descriptions of the requirements and video walkthroughs. The second part covers the game’s 90 total challenges, divided into 9 overall challenges with 10 parts each. Lastly, we will be reviewing the requirements for the 100% completion. It’s a long journey, so be prepared!

This guide is supplementary to the full walkthrough which can be found here.

Disclaimers:

Gold Medals:

  • You only need to earn 70 Gold Medals in the 104 available missions, so that means you’ll be able to skip any 34 of missions you struggle the most with getting a Gold Medal on. Additionally, there is a good handful of super short and easy missions during the Epilogue that you can use to earn a quick and easy Gold Medal later in the game before you go back to replay any more, if need be.
  • If you complete 3/5 optional objectives for a mission on your first time playing it, those won’t matter once you come back to replay it for the Gold Medal. This is because you must complete every single optional objective for a mission in a single replay/playthrough of the mission in order to earn the Gold Medal.
  • The order of the missions in this walkthrough is not set in stone, as you can usually play a number of different missions at any time in whatever order you want.
  • Some missions have objectives such as “complete within 12 minutes 30 seconds”, for these you will most likely have to skip all the cut scenes in order to fulfill that goal.
  • It’s encouraged to start a new save for doing these gold medal missions. Turn off auto-safe and save your game before starting a mission. If you don’t get gold medal, restart the save and try again. If you do this with replay you can not choose what horse or items you bring with you. You most likely will get the most basic horse and almost no items. However, it is completely possible to still get the trophy using only mission replay.
  • All missions are ranked on a scale from 1-5 in difficulty; this is subjective and based on the authors’ experiences.
  • Accuracy related objectives do not support reloading previous checkpoints.
  • Additionally, if you die, it will void the common “use no health items” objective.
  • Big thanks to GTA Series Videos for every mission’s Gold Medal video guide as well as guides for all 90 challenges located below!
  • A second helpful guide is Gaming with Abyss[gamingwithabyss.com], because he is doing it on replay.
  • Note: as of December 2019 (patch 1.15), the game has finally been updated to make these medals easier. Though it hasn’t been 100% confirmed as to what exactly you carry over during mission replay, it appears that your max health, stamina, and dead eye will all be set at a reasonable level for the distance through the game the mission occurs (I.E. chapter 1 you will still be at level 1, while epilogue part 2 should give you max stats). Your horse, weapons, and overall inventory seem to carry over in a similar way, with whatever you would normally have unlocked by that point being accessible during the mission. While you do still have to complete all objectives in a single run, the improved stats, inventory, and horse now make this trophy significantly less frustrating. The guide was written from the perspective of players that did the trophy the “original” way, so it is fair for someone just starting on the gold medals to assume that most of the harder missions can be dropped by a point or two in difficulty.

Challenges:

  • Challenge progress can be checked by going to the “challenge” section of the “progress” tab in the pause menu.
  • For the sake of efficiency and convenience, you should wait until you’ve completed the story to fully complete any said challenge category. This is because it’s far easier than if you were to start right away, and some challenges simply cannot be completed until you’ve reached at least the Epilogue. However, you’re free to work towards any challenge you want while you play through the story, if you want to save some time for later.
  • It is advised save the challenges that involve committing crimes until after you have reached the maximum honor level late in the game for a trophy, and completed all the optional honor missions.
  • You can complete challenge progress while in missions.
  • Recipes for crafting things are generally unlocked by progressing the story, so it’s recommended to wait until you’re finished the story to attempt most of the challenges. Alternatively, you can usually purchase recipes from a Fence as well.

How To Gamble:

This challenge category gets an entire separate section because a lot of it requires genuine knowledge of some kinds of gambling. Therefore, we will provide as many useful links as we can in order to help you learn and understand how you can play some of these games.

  • You don’t have to 100% the Compendium.

Challenge 1: Bandit

**Note: it is best to save this set of challenges for after you have completed the game and obtained the maximum honor level for other trophies, as these challenges will hurt your honor a lot.**

Part 1: Hold up 5 townsfolk.

  • Simply aim your weapon and rob and 5 townsfolk from any town.

Part 2: Rob two coaches or return two stolen coaches to a Fence.

  • Approach any coach and rob it twice, or sell coaches to a Fence at Emerald Ranch. You can attempt to rob them silently after obtaining an item in chapter 3, shoot the lock, or just kill the drivers. If you have trouble finding one, you can also rob the fast travel coaches.

Part 3: Rob the cash register in any four shops, in a single day.

  • This requires you to hide your identity with a bandanna or face mask, even an alternative outfit, and rob 4 shops all before the day is over. This can be a little difficult to get all 4 in a single town, partially because the town will lock down for a little while after a robbery, so it is best to try and hit two or three different towns, such as Valentine and Rhodes. Alternatively, you can rob a store in a town such as Valentine and then escape the law, pay off the bounty at a nearby post office, and repeat.

Part 4: Rob three coaches or return three stolen coaches to a Fence, in a single day.

  • This is one of the toughest challenges in this category, as it technically requires quite a bit of luck. However, if you have obtained the lockpicking item from a story mission in chapter 3, you are able to silently pick locks. Knowing this, the best option is to head to Rhodes in the morning and look for the stagecoach you can rent like a taxi. Rob it silently (save first), and then leave the town to make a new one spawn. Repeat this process until you finish the challenge.

Part 5: Earn a $250 dollar bounty in one state.

  • As the description states, simply earn a bounty of $250 dollars in a single state. Just kill everyone you come across and kill the police when they arrive. You can get this along with Bronze Bountiful.

Part 6: Steal five horses, and sell them to the horse Fence at Clemens Cove.

  • For this, you’ll have to steal a horse from anywhere, or anyone, and sell it to the brothers at Clemens Cove. Do this 5 different times. It doesn’t have to be done in one day and horses can be found all over the main towns and on roads.

Part 7: Rob $50 of cash and valuables from townsfolk and travelers.

  • Approach any person on the road or in a town and rob them for as much money as they have on them. Keep robbing people until you’ve amassed $50 dollars. This will take a while since most travelers won’t have much money on them. You can speed this up by robbing a train, as passengers tend to have a little more money than regular travelers.

Part 8: Steal seven wagons, and sell them to the Fence at Emerald Ranch.

  • Simply sell stolen wagons to the Fence in Emerald Ranch seven times. This doesn’t have to be done in one day or without dying, just stealing and selling seven total is sufficient.

Part 9: Hogtie someone and leave them on the railway tracks, three times.

  • As a nice nod to a trophy from the original game, you will need to hogtie three people and leave them to a gruesome death on the railroad tracks. To hogtie someone, you have to lasso them onto the ground, approach them, and press Circle. Once they’re hogtied, go to any train track where a train passes and lay them on the track. Do this three times, and make sure the train runs them over for good measure.

Part 10: Complete five train robberies without dying or being caught.

  • You’ll have the opportunity to rob any train later into the game, and for this, all you have to do is successfully rob any train 5 different times without dying or being caught. Just make sure to do things quick and clean and you should be able to escape without dying or being caught.

Challenge 2: Explorer

Part 1: Find a treasure map.

Parts 2-10 (each is the same): Find a treasure.

  • This is the easiest challenge in the game by far, as it simply requires you to find a treasure map and then locate 9 treasures. If you follow the videos below, you will unlock all 10 parts of the challenge pretty quickly.

Poisonous Trail Treasure Hunt Locations and Solution

Torn and Mended Treasure Map Location and Solution

Jack Hall Gang Treasure Map Location and Solution

Challenge 3: Gambler

Part 1: Win 5 hands of poker.

  • Go to any poker table around the world and win 5 hands. This doesn’t have to be done in one game or at one table, just 5 throughout the game.

Part 2: In blackjack, double down and win the hand five times.

  • In blackjack, after the initial cards are dealt, you can choose to hit, fold, double down, or if you have 2 cards with the same number you can split. If you double down, you double your bet and then get just one more card. If you beat the dealer, or the dealer busts, you will win the hand. Do this 5 times for the challenge.

Part 3: Win three games of five finger fillet.

  • In five finger fillet, you have to rapidly press buttons as they appear on screen to stab the space between your fingers. To win a game, you generally have to win 2 out of 3 rounds or 3 out of 5. Each round after you win gets harder, with the buttons changing around and becoming more complicated. Win 3 games to get this challenge.

Part 4: Bust one poker opponent out in each location (Flatneck Station, Saint Denis, Valentine).

  • In poker, to bust an opponent means to make them lose all of their chips. For this challenge, you’ll just have to outsmart the opponents until you manage to bust one of them in each of the 3 locations mentioned. Aside from learning how to play poker in itself, I’d recommend simply paying attention to the way the opponents react to the game, such as they’ll begin betting high or low depending on if they think they have a good hand. Play smart and use context clues, and you should be able to get this with minimal problems.

Part 5: Win three rounds of dominoes without drawing any tiles against two or fewer opponents.

  • For this challenge, you need to win 3 rounds of dominoes without drawing any tiles. This one is very annoying because it is very much up to how versed you are in the actual game of dominoes, opposed to most of the other games here which can be roughly understood just by playing the game. Please refer to the Useful Information section of the guide for a direct link on how to play dominoes, or Gtamen’s guide doing a little bit of explaining.

Part 6: Beat the blackjack dealer in two locations (Rhodes, Van Horn Trading Post).

  • This one is actually pretty easy. All you have to do is beat the dealer, regardless of the method. Therefore, simply playing a few hands at each location will probably be enough for the challenge. Keep in mind that the Van Horn won’t always be playable until after you comeplete one of the stranger missions in the town.

Part 7: Beat the five finger fillet opponent in each location (Strawberry, Valentine, Van Horn Trading Post).

  • For this challenge, you’ll have to do your best to win a game of five finger fillet in Strawberry, Valentine, and Van Horn Trading Post. Beating the first opponent in each location is really easy because the button sequence is very simple.

Part 8: Win three hands of blackjack, with three hits or more.

  • This is perhaps the most BS challenge in the entire game, as it comes down entirely to luck. To complete this challenge, you have to win 3 total hands of blackjack after “hitting” (getting a new card) three times. Not just do you need to avoid going over 21, but you still have to win the hand. The best strategy is just to hit on every single hand until you eventually get lucky and win with 3 hits (a total of 5 cards on the table). This may take a few hours…

Part 9: Win three games of dominoes in a row.

  • Simple, win 3 full games of dominoes in a row to get this challenge. Normally, this would be fairly difficult, but you can leave the table if you’re about to lose and it won’t count against you or reset the streak. Save after each win and then start playing again just to be safe. Obviously, knowledge of dominoes will make this much easier, but isn’t necessarily required if you get lucky. It is highly recommended that you play against only one opponent, though it doesn’t matter which variant of dominos you decide to play.

Part 10: Win three hands of poker in a row.

  • Just like part 9 of this challenge, you will need to win three times in a row. Thankfully, you only have to win single poker hands for this challenge, and if you are about to lose you can leave the table. A good strategy is to go all in regardless of the cards you get, as more often than not everyone else will fold. If you just keep going all in repeatedly, you should get it within 20 hands. As with dominos, it is easier to play against fewer people.

Challenge 4: Herbalist

Part 1: Pick 6 Yarrow.

  • Yarrow is a fairly tall red plant that is generally pretty common. If you want to get this challenge done early, there is a lot in the open fields near your campsite in Chapter 2.

Part 2: Pick and eat 4 species of berry.

  • Each berry varies in size and won’t be super easy to spot, so be sure to give each area a thorough search if you seemingly can’t find it. It’s also important to note that you must eat the berry after you find it for it to actually count towards the challenge progression. Additionally, the berry may not count unless you receive the health benefit from eating it, so make sure your health core isn’t full at the time you eat the berry.

Below is a list of berries and their locations:

  • Blackberry can be found in and around the Dakota River, to the left of Valentine.
  • Evergreen Huckleberry can be found in the Swamps above Saint Denis and below the Lagras.
  • Raspberry can be found just to the right of Valentine, and just above Citadel Rock.
  • Wintergreen Berry can be found in the top-right corner of the map, above Roanoke Valley.

Part 3: Craft seven items using sage as an ingredient.

  • For this challenge, you’ll have to find Sage and use it as an ingredient to craft 7 items. Oleander Sage will not count towards this challenge, so you must find others, such as Hummingbird Sage, a purple plant which can be found just south of Dewberry Creek. The easiest item to create for this challenge would have to be Potent Bitters, which also requires Burdock Root, another purple plant. You can find that all over the map but most specifically around lakes, rivers, or just in and around the shores of bodies of water.

Part 4: Pick five mushrooms, and feed them to your horse.

  • Simply find and feed any five mushrooms to your horse. Mushrooms can be found anywhere on the map, but seemingly more so near Dakota River and on the way to Valentine, so keep an eye out while on the road and grassier areas for them. Make sure that you’re actually feeding mushrooms to your horse, and not just various foods, by selecting it in the inventory wheel.

Part 5: Craft nine items using Indian tobacco as an ingredient.

  • Indian Tobacco is fairly common throughout the world and can be used to craft dead eye based items. Craft 9 total items using this tobacco to complete the challenge.

Part 6: Pick fifteen different species of herb.

  • For this challenge, you’ll have to pick up any 15 herbs found in the wilderness. It’s not very picky with which ones you can pick up, so you could probably do this with relative ease by just traveling through different areas of the map, but refer to Gtamen’s video if you’d like a more specific look at where you might be able to find a handful of them.

Part 7: Craft five special miracle tonics, and use them.

  • To create special miracle tonics, you’ll need to learn this recipe by completing the mission “A Short Walk in a Pretty Town”, and then buying the recipe from a fence (or by finding the recipe by exploring the wild).

The following herbs are the required as ingredients to craft one special miracle tonic:

  • 6x Yarrow (can be easily found in and around the oil fields areas near the Heartlands).
  • 6x Burdock Root (can be found in and around most bodies of water, rivers, and lakes).
  • 6x Black or Golden Currant (can be found in various locations above Annesburg or around Beecher’s Hope).
  • To craft all 5 miracle tonics you need 30 Yarrow, 30 Burdock Root and 30 Black or Golden Currant.

Part 8: Use oleander to craft six poison weapons.

  • For this challenge, you’ll simply need to craft 6 poison weapons, which is most easily done with throwing knives. Collect some Oleander Sage (which can be easily found in the swampy areas above Caliga Hall), and buy some throwing knives from the Fence, and craft 6 of them.

Part 9: Pick one of each type of herb.

  • **Glitch warning:** some players have reported that picking up some herbs before certain parts of the game and having them disappear, and re-grow in the same spot as a different herb. For example, if you were to pick up some herbs in Chapter 4, lose them in Chapter 5, and then return afterwards, they may be different entirely. In this case, please try to refrain from chasing this challenge too much until you’ve finished the story.

This challenge requires you to pick a total of 43 herbs spread across the map. For the sake of convenience, here is a complete video guide of each herb’s location:

All 43 Herb Locations

Part 10: Season and cook all eleven types of meat.

  • For this challenge, you’ll have to season and cook all 11 different types of meat. You can season meats by hitting Left or Right on the d-pad while highlighting the meat in order to choose its recipe, and you can season them with different kinds of herbs, such as Oregano. Make sure that every piece of meat has been seasoned before you cook it.

The following are where you can find each kind of meat:

  • Exotic Bird Meat (can be found most easily by killing a pelican just off the east side of Blackwater).
  • Pork (can be purchased from a butcher).
  • Plump Bird Meat (can be from any chicken, turkey, or goose from all over the map).
  • Big Game Meat (can be easily found from any Alligator within the swamps).
  • Prime Beef (can be purchased from a butcher).
  • Succulent Fish Meat (from any kind of smaller fish).
  • Game Meat (can be narrowed down to most birds).
  • Flakey Fish Meat (can be from any larger fish).
  • Crustacean Meat (can only be found from crabs on the islands in the water to the left of Rhodes. Two important things about crabs: you must break down the crab carcass after you kill it in order to be able to cook it, and you must use a lower caliber gun in order to not destroy it’s corpse upon killing it).
  • Mutton (can be found from sheep, goats, and ram).
  • Venison (can be purchased from a butcher).

Herbalist Challenge Guide

Challenge 5: Horseman

Part 1: Kill 5 rabbits from horseback.

  • Very simple, just kill 5 rabbits with any weapon from horseback.

Part 2: Jump over 3 obstacles in 15 seconds.

  • Go to a rural town (like Valentine) and quickly hop 3 fences.

Part 3: Ride from Valentine to Rhodes in less than five minutes.

  • Simply sit in the middle of Valentine on horseback, set a marker for Rhodes, and ride there as fast as you can. This shouldn’t be too much trouble, but use a timer if need be. Make sure your horse has plenty of stamina and you have some stamina healing items in your inventory if necessary.

Part 4: While mounted, drag a person for 3300 feet using a lasso.

  • When using the lasso on horseback, you can drag a person by holding onto it after lassoing someone. For this, all you need to do is successfully lasso someone, and just hold on to them while you ride for 3300 feet. Keep in mind that they don’t have to survive the journey…

Part 5: Trample five animals while on horseback.

  • Similar to the first challenge in this category, simply run over 5 animals while on horseback. This will probably come naturally since many animals like to run directly under your horse.

Part 6: Ride from Strawberry to Saint Denis in less than nine minutes, without touching water.

  • Similar to the third challenge, sit in the middle of Strawberry, place a marker to Saint Denis, and race your way there within nine minutes. This time, you’ll have to avoid any and all water, so be sure to either stay clear of any ponds, lakes, or rivers (puddles on the ground don’t count against you). The best route is to rush straight to the train track once you get out of Strawberry and follow the line all the way to Saint Denis. Use a timer if need be.

Part 7: Kill seven enemies from horseback, without dismounting.

  • Simply kill seven enemies while on horseback without dismounting. This could easily be done when running into bounty hunters, or any group of enemies, but it’s recommended to have a full Dead Eye meter so you won’t risk losing your horse or being thrown off.

Part 8: Kill nine predators from horseback.

  • Similar to the first challenge, you’ll have to kill nine predators while on horseback. Predators are the more lethal and aggressive animals, so be careful while taking any on from horseback, as you risk your horse running away in fear. This is best done against wolves, as they attack usually at night and in packs, and can be downed with one good shotgun shot. Alligators are also a good target as dozens of them spawn throughout the swamps in Lemoyne.

Part 9: Ride from Van Horn Trading Post to Blackwater in less than seventeen minutes, without touching water.

  • Just like challenges six and three, you’ll have to basically travel across the entire map within seventeen minutes, and without touching water. Sit in the middle of Van Horn Trading post, and race your way to Blackwater as fast as you can. This can only be done during or after the Epilogue.

Part 10: Break every breed of wild horse.

For this challenge, you’ll have to break every breed of wild horse you can find. The breeds are as follows:

  • Wild Morgan (found far North of Strawberry, near Creek River)
  • Wild American Standardbred (found far North of Strawberry, near Creek River)
  • Wild Tennessee Walker (found in the Heartlands, below Valentine)
  • Wild Mustang (found in the Heartlands, below Valentine)
  • Wild Kentucky Saddler (found in the Great Plains, just below Blackwater)
  • Wild Hungarian Halfbreed (found in the Great Plains, a little North of Blackwater)
  • Wild Appaloosa (found near in Ambarino, just below the Wapiti Indian Reservation)
  • Wild American Paint (found in West Austin, below Tumbleweed)
  • Wild Nokota (found in New Austin, just below Armadillo)

Horseman Challenge Guide

Challenge 6: Master Hunter

Part 1: Skin 3 deer.

  • Kill any 3 deer with any weapon and skin them.

Part 2: Get 3 perfect rabbit pelts.

  • First of all, the game actually doesn’t mention this, but next to the name of any animal you aim it (if you have studied it), the game will show 3 stars. Depending on the quality of the animal, those stars will be filled in, with 3 stars indicating a chance for a perfect pelt.
  • For this challenge, you will want to use either the varmint rifle or small game arrows on the bow. Aim at the rabbit in dead eye and kill it with one shot to the head or other parts that turn red in dead eye for the best chance at getting a perfect pelt.

Part 3: Track ten different animal species using your binoculars.

  • For this, you will want to get off the horse and activate the binoculars from your items menu. Zoom in on ground animals such as deer and squirrels and hold Triangle to begin tracking them. Do this to 10 different animals for the challenge.

Part 4: Get a clean kill after calling an animal 5 times.

  • First off, in order to call animals, get fairly close to them and hit Square. Once the animal turns its head and looks your way, you will need to kill it with a single shot. This can be done on any animals, though calling doesn’t work well on birds.

Part 5: Skin three black or grizzly bears.

  • Bears are mostly located in West Elizabeth and Ambarino, usually in the mountainous regions. Simply kill any 3 bears with any weapon and skin them for this challenge.

Part 6: Kill five cougars with a bow, and skin them.

  • Cougars are a pretty rare spawn that mostly appear in West Elizabeth, and are completely random. You will probably get ambushed and possibly killed by one at least once. Once you find a cougar, kill it with a bow (any arrow type is allowed) and skin it, then sleep for a few days until it respawns. Repeat this process until you get 5.

Part 7: Use bait to lure and kill a herbivore, and a predator.

  • This challenge is actually fairly easy, since all you have to do is put a bait down, and get a kill on both a herbivore and predator. As long as you have the bait placed on the ground near the predator and herbivore, you can kill both within a similar time frame and progress this challenge.

Part 8: Catch three fish without using a fishing rod.

  • This challenge is actually quite easy, albeit a bit unethical. Go to any lake/ocean/stream where fish are visible and either shoot at them with any weapon or throw dynamite until you kill and harvest 3 of them.

Part 9: Catch an opossum playing opossum.

  • Go to any location where opossums spawn (Ringneck Creek in Lemoyne is a good location) and find an opossum. When you get close, it will likely play dead, allowing you to kill it and complete the challenge.

Part 10: Kill the legendary panther.

  • See the video guide under the “Legendary Animal” section of 100% Miscellaneous for the location of the legendary panther.

Master Hunter Challenge Guide

Challenge 7: Sharpshooter

Part 1: Kill 3 flying birds.

  • Use Dead Eye to kill any 3 birds, doesn’t have to be done in a single round of Dead Eye.

Part 2: Kill 2 different species of animal in the same Dead Eye use.

  • This is best done against small game such as turkeys and birds. Make sure you have a relatively full Dead Eye meter, find some small game on the ground, and follow them until some birds fly over. Kill one of each in a single Dead Eye use to complete this challenge.

Part 3: Kill 5 birds while on a moving train.

  • This is pretty simple, as all you have to do is get on any part of a train and then kill 5 birds when it starts moving. This can be done over multiple trains and using dead eye is fine. However, shooting while on the train will cause guards to come after you, so try to do this quickly.

Part 4: Kill someone from at least 80 feet away with a tomahawk.

  • Normally, this one would be quite challenging, as it would require a non-violent and stationary target to be present long enough for you to sight in and tomahawk them. However, you can actually just hogtie someone and then get the long range kill.

Part 5: Kill six animals without switching or reloading a weapon.

  • For this challenge, you will need a weapon with a large magazine and a group of small to medium game animals. The Lancaster Repeater and Varmint Rifle both work quite well for this as they can each hold 14 rounds. The Lancaster will work on small and medium game, while the Varmint Rifle will only work on small game. As long as you don’t accidentally reload with Circle you should be fine.

Part 6: Kill someone at least 660 feet (220 yards) away with a scoped rifle.

  • Just like part 4 of this challenge, you can hogtie someone and then leave them alone while you take shots at them. A good strategy is to go to New Hanover and leave the hogtied victim in an open field. From there, climb one of the mountains in the area to get a clear shot. It may take a few tries to get the distance right, but there are plenty of unwilling victims on the roads…

Part 7: Get seven headshots in a row.

  • Getting 7 headshots in a row isn’t really that hard as you can use dead eye. It is best to wait until you have a high leveled dead eye skill or a lot of recovery items. Then, just kill 7 people in a row using dead eye to get headshots.

Part 8: Disarm three opponents without switching or reloading a weapon.

  • For this challenge, you’ll need to disarm three enemies without changing your weapon or reloading. This can be done by simply aiming at the enemy’s hands/their gun, shooting it, and it should make them drop their weapon completely. Do this 3 times, against enemies in a gun battle or enemies who are unaware, it doesn’t matter.
  • Do note that this challenge can be a little buggy because getting on your horse or entering dead eye will reset the counter.

Part 9: Shoot three hats off people in the same Dead Eye.

  • This challenge sounds a lot trickier than it actually is. For this challenge, you’ll need to shoot at the hats of 3 enemies in a row without running out of Dead Eye. You can go to Valentine and head to the outside of the post office where you’ll (probably) find two men leaning off the side. You can use these men, and any other person, in order to easily get this challenge done.
  • Best way to do this is to use a pumped shotgun, and then aim for the top of their hats. If you keep some distance the NPC will get some damage, but their hat will fly off as well. If you stand to close, or use for example a repeater you will get headshots.

Part 10: Kill three flying birds with three consecutive scoped rifle shots.

  • Just like the last challenge, this one isn’t too tough at all. For this challenge, you simply have to shoot 3 birds out of the air with a scoped rifle, without missing. To make this as easy as possible, make sure that you have your Dead Eye leveled to where you can enter Dead Eye to slow down time and then shoot each bird manually without marking them. This one might take some time if you aren’t too familiar with aiming with precision, but you’ll get it with enough practice. Do note that all three must be killed in a single dead eye use if you go that route.

Sharpshooter Challenge Guide

Challenge 8: Survivalist

Part 1: Catch 3 Bluegill fish.

  • Bluegill are a common type of fish that can be found in just about any body of water. Cheese is the best bait type.

Part 2: Hand 5 animals into camp or trapper.

  • For this objective, just get 5 animals (small game like fish, birds, and squirrels work well) and hand them in to either Pearson at camp or the trapper in Saint Denis.

Part 3: Kill 5 animals using a Varmint Rifle.

  • The Varmint Rifle is a very low powered .22 caliber rifle that can be obtained for free from any gunsmith. Once you have it, just get 5 kills on any animal (again small game is best) to complete the objective.

Part 4: Craft a dynamite arrow, fire arrow, improved arrow, poison arrow, and small game arrow.

  • You can find recipes by just exploring the world, as potential rewards for helping random people, or they can be bought from fences:
  • Dynamite arrow: requires Dynamite and a flight feather.
  • Fire arrow: requires an arrow, flight feather, and animal fat.
  • Improved arrow: requires an arrow and a flight feather.
  • Poison arrow: requires an arrow, a flight feather, and an oleander plant.
  • Small game arrow: requires an arrow, a flight feather, and a regular shotgun shell.

Part 5: Catch a fish in the Bayou from a riverboat, and while standing on the train tracks.

  • This one is pretty easy, just get in a riverboat in the Bayou and catch a fish, then get on the train tracks and catch another fish. Provided you don’t get eaten by a gator or killed by the train, you should be fine.

Part 6: Kill an animal while it’s feeding on a corpse, five times.

  • There are a few different animals that can do this. If you leave a hogtied person near an alligator, it will sometimes go after the person. This may also work by dropping a corpse near the gator. Additionally, for some reason pigs will eat dead humans, so you can try to do it with pigs as well.
  • Interestingly, the corpse doesn’t have to be a human. If you kill and skin a larger animal such as a deer or cougar and sit around the area for a while, small predators like foxes or predatory birds will eat the corpse, allowing for a much faster method.

Part 7: Kill eight small game animals with consecutive small game arrows.

  • For this challenge, you need to use small game arrows to kill 8 small game in a row, without killing anything else or missing. This challenge isn’t actually that difficult while using Dead Eye, so to save yourself some stress and make sure that your Dead Eye is fully charged and maxed out while attempting this. You can easily complete this challenge by using the small game arrows on packs of birds, such as in the Heartlands or small rats found insides caves at Elysian Pool, for example.
  • Save after every other kill so you don’t have to start over.

Part 8: Craft a homing tomahawk, improved tomahawk, improved dynamite, and volatile fire bottle.

  • Homing Tomahawk: requires a Tomahawk and an owl feather.
  • Improved Tomahawk: requires a Tomahawk and a hawk feather.
  • Improved Dynamite: requires Dynamite, animal fat, and any high velocity ammo.
  • Volatile Fire Bottle: requires moonshine and animal fat.

Part 9: Catch a fish that weighs at least 19lb.

  • You can complete this challenge with relative ease by starting the stranger mission “A Fisher of Fish” (located on the lakeside south of Flatneck Station), heading to the Lagras and buying Special Lake Bait. From there, head to the following location and attempt to catch the legendary fish, who will surely weigh at least 19lb:

If you already caught all legendary fish a good location is below the waterfall Brandywine drop in the North-East corner of the map. Use a fishing rod with the Special River Lure to catch Muskies. Muskies also prefer sunny weather, and the Muskie’s here seem to be on avarage bigger then the ones at the Van Horn lighthouse.

Part 10: Catch one of every species of fish.

  • For this challenge, you’ll have to catch all 15 different species of fish. Some will be available within different environments than others, and you’ll have to use different baits for each one. It’s also important to note that most fish in the game can be found at many places all over the map, and that they do not have a specific location. However, the screenshots below can be used as a general indicator of where you could be fishing. You can find each below (all credits to Gtamen for the following screenshots):

Survivalist Challenge Guide

Challenge 9: Weapons Expert

Part 1: Kill 3 enemies with a knife.

  • Equip the knife from the weapons wheel and kill 3 enemies with it. Try to attack enemies that are alone so you don’t get killed in the process.

Part 2: Kill 3 enemies in 10 seconds using only throwing knives.

  • First, make sure you have a good number of throwing knives (at least 5 is preferable). Then, find a group of 3 or more enemies. Throwing knives lock on to enemies in dead eye like a heat seeking missile, so get close and knife-headshot all 3 enemies quickly.

Part 3: Kill three birds of prey using tomahawks.

  • For this challenge, you will need to kill three eagles, hawks, or vultures with a tomahawk. It doesn’t matter if they are flying or if you kill them in dead eye, as long as you use a tomahawk. A good place to grind this out is the bridge titled “Bard’s Crossing” next to Flatneck Station, as a bird of prey will spawn sitting on the bridge every day.

Part 4: Kill ten enemies with a shotgun, using crafted ammo.

  • For this challenge, you’ll have to craft any kind of special ammo for the Shotgun, and kill 10 enemies with it. It’s recommended that you craft and use buckshot incendiary ammo since it’s not very difficult to craft (and is unlocked after completing the mission “Pouring Forth Oil”). To craft buckshot incendiary ammo for the shotgun, you’ll need both regular shotgun ammo and moonshine (both can be purchased at a Fence), and you simply craft it until you have enough that you’re comfortable with.

Part 5: Kill five mounted enemies with one throwing knife per enemy.

  • Find mounted enemies, either bounty hunters or enemies within missions, and make sure you have plenty of throwing knives. Use dead eye to lock on to the heads of the enemies and then throw. These kills don’t have to be done consecutively, so it’s okay if you miss a few times.

Part 6: Kill four enemies with one stick of dynamite.

  • This one will generally require a lot of luck, as four enemies won’t group up very often. It is possible to run into some random events, such as a KKK meeting in the woods that will have a bunch of enemies close together. However, you can also just hogtie four people, drop them close together, and kill them with one dynamite. Coach robberies are another option, as they will usually have multiple people together.

Part 7: Kill four enemies in a row with the same tomahawk.

  • First, you will want to make sure that you only have one tomahawk in your inventory before attempting this objective (that way you don’t accidentally use another one). Then, you will want to go against very small groups of enemies (no more than 2 at a time) and kill one. As soon as he goes down, loot the body to regain the tomahawk. Now repeat with three more enemies in a row to get the challenge.

Part 8: Kill fifteen enemies using a long-barreled sidearm.

  • For this, you’ll simply need to upgrade a sidearm with the long-barrel attachment, and then kill any 15 enemies with it.

Part 9: Kill nine unaware enemies from behind, using the bow.

  • This one is actually very easy, as a number of missions will give you the option to stealth kill enemies. Simply kill 9 enemies stealthily using the bow (you will need to headshot them) to get this challenge. These don’t have to be done in a row or in the same mission.

Part 10: Kill a grizzly bear using only throwing knives, without taking damage.

  • This is fairly straight forward. The only thing we can advise is that you make sure you are carrying as many throwing knives (preferably poison knives) as possible, aim for the head/face and any vitals, and keep a distance. It’s recommended to also create some kind of leverage on the bear, since if you’re out in the open you’ll surely take damage at least once. With that being said, if you can create some kind of distance between you and the bear where you can safely throw knives accurately, you should be able to complete this.

100% Missions and Events

Complete all 104 story missions

  • Simply complete all 104 story missions with any medal ranking to complete this objective. You will unlock all story related trophies along the way. Actually, just completing part 2 of the Epilogue will be sufficient, but you will need to complete all the optional missions anyway for “Silver Lending a Hand.”

Complete 10 stranger questlines

  • Complete 10 full stranger questlines for this challenge. Will unlock the “Western Stranger.”
  • It has been stated that the counter will increase by only completing the first part of any stranger mission, so this will unlock well before the trophy.

Complete 5 bounties:

  • Starting in Chapter 2, you can complete a side mission in Valentine called “Good Honest Snake Oil”, which will unlock bounties (if you don’t do it here, it will appear in the replay missions menu). Complete any 5 bounties throughout the world for this objective. You will have to track down a bounty target, hogtie them, and bring them back to the sheriff alive. You can start bounties in most of the major towns and there are well over 5 available in the game.

Have 25 chance encounters:

  • As you explore the giant world of Red Dead Redemption 2, you will encounter all sorts of random events, which will appear as a white dot on the map. These can involve freeing prisoners or kidnapped women, providing medicine to a wounded traveler, etc. This will unlock through natural progression, so no need to go out of your way to get it done.

Encounter 1 gang ambush:

  • While exploring the world, you will occasionally get ambushed by an enemy gang that will try to rob/kill you. Regardless of how the encounter goes, experiencing it will finish this objective. This will unlock through natural progression.

Capture all 6 gang hideouts

  • You will get 4 out of the 6 hideouts just by completing the game: Six Point Cabin, Shady Belle, Beaver Hollow, and Hanging Dog Ranch.
  • The other two are Thieves Landing and Fort Mercer, both of which are in New Austin and are depicted in the images below.

100% Collectables

Locate 1 point of interest:

  • Points of interest are locations on the map that you can examine that Arthur will proceed to write about in his journal. Locate just 1 of these POIs to complete this objective. If it doesn’t come through natural progression, refer to the video below.

Point of Interest Location

Locate all 9 graves:

  • Will be unlocked automatically with the “Paying Respects” Achievement.

Complete 1 cigarette card set:

  • There are a total of 12 cigarette card sets, each of which contains 12 cards for a grand total of 144. Thankfully, you only need to complete 1 of these sets to complete the objective. Refer to “Collector’s Item” in our original guide.

Collect all 30 dinosaur bones:

  • There are a total of 30 dinosaur bones you can find throughout the game. Locating all 30 will complete this objective. Refer to “Collector’s Item” in our original guide.

Catch all 13 legendary fish:

  • There are a total of 13 legendary fish to be found in the game. To start catching legendary fish you first need to get the map from a NPC that lives at Flat Iron Lake. After being given the map you can buy 3 types of special lures at the fisherman shop in Lagras. These lures give you a better chance of attracting a big fish while fishing.

All Legendary Fish Locations

Complete all exotic tasks for Algernon Wasp:

  • Algernon Wasp is a stranger located within Saint Denis who will give you a questline regarding completing requests for him, and said requests involve finding exotic things for him. To be blunt, this is probably the least enjoyable aspect of attaining 100% completion because this questline is very, very long without a guide, and still fairly long while following one. Completing the requests might prove to be difficult, but keep at it! For the sake of convenience, refer to this video guide for more information regarding Algernon Wasp and his exotic requests:

**Note:** It appears to be that somethimes orchids don’t spawn of the given location where they should be. Even when you have the request for this orchid. This seems to be a bug in the game, but the orchid can still spawn later on. Best thing is to leave the area for a few ingame days, and return at a later stage. Current theory is that setting up a camp in the area might have something to do with it.

All Exotic Requests Video Guide

Locate all 10 rock carvings:

  • There are a total of 10 rock carvings you can find throughout the game. Refer to Silver Collector’s Item for a guide.

Complete all hunting requests from train stations:

  • To begin the hunting requests, you will need to complete the stranger mission “The Ties That Bind”, which will begin near Rhodes in Chapter 4. After this, you will be able to pick up a hunting request poster from any train station. Please refer to Bronze It’s Art for more information as you need to complete all requests for part of this trophy.

Complete 1 treasure hunt

  • Will be unlocked automatically while completing Challenge 2: Explorer.

Find all 20 dreamcatchers:

  • There are a total of 20 dreamcatcher hanging from trees around the world. Hold Triangle to inspect them when you get close. They can be a little tough to see so refer to the video below for a better look.

All Dreamcatcher Locations

100% Compendium Part 1

Discover 50 animals

  • For this objective, you will need to study/kill 50 different species of animals throughout the game. There are a total of 178, so this will unlock long before you finish “Skin Deep” and “Zoologist.”

Obtain 10 pieces of equipment:

  • Equipment is different from weapons, as it relates to your gear. This includes the lasso, binoculars, fishing rod, lantern, and upgraded ammo belts. This will most likely unlock through natural progression, especially if you are doing every available story and stranger mission.

Catch 10 different species of fish

  • There are a total of 30 different species of fish you can catch. Different fish are attracted to different types of bait. You will get this while catching all the legendary fish.

Encounter all 6 enemy gangs

  • Unmissable story related objective. This will be completed during the second part of the epilogue.

Discover 10 different breeds of horses

  • There are a total of 19 different breeds of horses. Horses are counted differently than the other types of animals in a different section of the Compendium. Study 10 different breeds to get this objective. There are tons of horses in your campsite each chapter, and plenty more in and around Saint Dennis, plus the ones you find in the wild, so if you just study every horse you come across you will get this well before completing the story.
  • Some horses can be bought, and others can be found in the wild. You will need to encounter and break each wild horse for the Horseman challenge.

Collect 20 total plants:

  • Simply harvest 20 different types of plants throughout the course of the game. You can hit L3+ R3 to scan the area to help find plants. You will get this while going for the Herbalist challenge.

  • Ornate Dagger: refer to the video below, as this is a very complicated weapon to obtain.

How to get the Ornate Dagger Unique Weapon

100% Player

Reach maximum health, stamina, and dead eye:

  • To check your progress with each stat, pause the game and go to “player” and “select a stat”. You have to get all three abilities to level 10 for this objective.
  • Health is upgraded by killing people, fighting with melee weapons, bow hunting, and fishing. You can increase it very quickly by rowing a boat.
  • Stamina is the easiest to upgrade, as simply running around the world will increase your stamina level over time.
  • Dead Eye can be increased by hunting, getting headshots on enemies, crafting, and exploring. Skinning large animals and completing challenges will speed up the process.
  • Once all three categories are at level 8, you will need to complete all the challenges in the game. Upon doing so, you will be able to purchase a bunch of gear sets from Trappers (such as the one in Saint Denis). Purchasing all these sets in their entirety will boost all three categories to level 10 for this objective.

Reach maximum bonding level with a horse:

  • Will unlock along with “Trusty Steed.”

Complete all 9 challenges:

  • Refer to the challenge sections of this guide for information on all 9 challenges.

100% Miscellaneous

Explore 5 Shacks:

  • There are a total of 19 shacks available in the game, but you only need to locate 5 of them.

5 Shack Locations

Kill 5 Legendary Animals:

  • There are a total of 16 legendary animals. You only have to kill 5 of them for the platinum. Legendary animals provide legendary skins and other items for crafting at trappers, but that’s about it. To get legendary animals, you will have to track them like any other animal (though the tracks appear as a yellow color), and then kill it with any weapon.

All Legendary Animal Locations

Play All 4 Table games:

Unlocks along with “Hobby Horse.”

Encounter 5 Ranters, Ravers, and Campaigners:

  • Ranters, ravers, and campaigners are random people that can be found in major settlements. They tend to be loud and talk a lot, especially when you get near. For example, there is a Civil War veteran you can give money to in Rhodes, and the Mayor of Strawberry. There are a whole bunch more in Saint Denis, so spend some time exploring and you will get this easily.

Take a Bath:

  • At some of the saloons/hotels in the game, you can pay to take a bath (it is usually around 25 cents). Simply take a bath (best to wash everything and go for the deluxe option just to make sure it counts) to get this objective.

See a Show:

  • In Valentine you can attend a show for 50 cents, basically a recorded voice playing alongside a slide show. Watch the entire show (it lasts around 5 minutes) to get the objective.

See a Theater performance:

  • Just like the previous objective, you need to attend a show, but this time, you will be going to one of the big fancy theaters in Saint Denis. It is toward the middle of the city and a ticket will cost $2. Buy the ticket, sit down, and watch one of the performances (there will be a few in a row) to get this objective.

Discover 6 Recipes:

  • The description for this one is a little vague, as you actually have to get one of each type of recipe. The six types are: cooking, tonic, ammo, hunting, horse care, and a weapon. When accessing the crafting inventory from your camp, you’ll be able to cycle through each category using L1 and R1 and you’ll be able to access everything from cooking to horse care. You can find the majority of them through purchase from the Fence, but they are also spread out through the world and obtained by simply progressing the story. Just make sure you actually open and read the pamphlet to learn the recipe once you obtain them!

Complete a coach robbery, home robbery, shop robbery, and train robbery:

  • First off, robberies completed during missions do not count toward this aspect of completion.
  • The home robbery will unlock while going for “Breaking and Entering.” These can be done starting in chapter 2, and the robberies are finished by entering the home and stealing a stash somewhere inside. Some will require you to interrogate the owners.
  • Shop robberies can be problematic as simply entering a store and robbing the cash register doesn’t seem to count. Instead, you have to rob a store that has a “suspicious activity”. Once you locate the location of a suspicious activity, pull your gun on the owner and tell them to
  • The coach robbery is best done by speaking to the attendant at the train station in Rhodes or Strawberry, as he will give you the location of a nearby coach. Once you get the location, go to it and dispose of the coach’s drivers and guards in any way you choose. Rob the coach or return it to a fence to get this objective.
  • Train robberies are somewhat more daring, while staying fairly simple. To rob a train, you’ll have to track one down, jump on board (or board it if it’s stopped), rob any safes you can and rob any passengers you can. Safes require dynamite to be planted on the surface of them in order to be blown up, and for passengers, you can just aim at them and press Triangle to effectively rob them. Once you do this, escape, and you’ll be good.
